Puerto Rico is in the tropics, it is summer all year long, so the temperature changes very little from season to season. In fact, the average low in winter in the coastal areas is only about 69 degrees, and up in the mountains it gets to about 55 degrees. The record high in Puerto Rico is about 98 degrees. Some summers, however, temperatures can reach about 110 or more in the dry south coast.

Where is it the hottest?
  • Typically, it is hottest south of the Central Mountain Range. In a normal day in Puerto Rico, the eastern coast can have a high of 88 degrees, while a city in the southern part of the Island can be at a warm 94. The southern coast of Puerto Rico is actually a dry desert terrain

Where is it the coolest?
  • The interior sections of Puerto Rico are home to the highest peak in the Island, Cerro Punta (about 4,000ft.). In the mountains, the weather is considerably cooler than anywhere else on the Island. A typical day in Puerto Rico would have temperatures in Jayuya (interior) up to only 74 degrees. The temperatures in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico have reached the low 40's in winter.

*The rainiest season is in between October and May.*
